What McGovern Knows

For an icon of liberalism - a word that has come to mean "we have good intentions and want to use the government monopoly on force to make you do things in a way we think will have good outcomes, because we know more about the way things work than you, and are more responsible than you, and have a larger conscience than you" - to detail his hard won experience showing the negative eventualities of government interference ... it's worth a read, even if the article isn't long or particularly interesting. It may also be worth a read since the author is a war veteran and former party leader.

The conclusions will be nothing new to those who study these matters - every government intervention creates negative unintended consequences which blunt or eliminate the net benefits that were intended from the intervention.
