Deer - a "menace"?

What if, absent the natural predators for deer, they are a menace as hunters have said they would be all along absent hunting?

What if the bambi idea is backwards - that deer are eating plants to extinction and their populations have grown all too fast after being devastated by the deforestation of the early 1900s?

That seems to be true, not to mention their risk to humans in cars.

I love deer. I've hunted them all my life. I like to see them, hunt them, eat them. They are beautiful. The whitetail is apparently more adaptable than the mule deer, which is decreasing in numbers.

I hope the human race keeps learning how to help them live in balance with the rest of nature.

Emanuel responded that crimes such as burglary, armed robbery and theft are down 10%. This is true, but it's small comfort to the parents of Heaven Sutton, 7, who was killed as she tried to dodge bullets fired from the guns of gangbangers. She was selling snow cones at the time.


Heaven didn't get quite the attention of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager killed by neighborhood watch member George Zimmerman. When perceived racism can be invoked as a cause of death, headlines blare. When it happens in a city beset by liberalism's failures, crickets chirp.

There's an easily observable human characteristic of ignoring the chronic peril and over-reacting to the novel peril.  Crazy.  I'd bet cars, poisons and pools kill more kids than virtually anything - where's the outrage?  What about kid deaths due to alcohol?  Second hand smoke?  Obesity driven by junk food?  We are physiologically unable to keep perspective.

Palin Driving the Left Batty

That sounds like Sarah Palin's new plight. She's running fifth in the 2012 presidential polls, and that's just among Republicans. Sixty percent of Americans view her "very unfavorably." She's getting close to being politically radioactive.

How could such a star burn out so fast? Two reasons: She started out with a lot to learn about national and international affairs, and she didn't bother. And she's got a mean streak.

Was she ever really a star?  I couldn't believe how afraid of this lady the left was, now it's still a surprise to see how they are enjoying what should have been an obvious and mediocre appeal as a presidential candidate. 

I was one of many who enjoyed her nomination, but primarily, because of her contrast to both McCain and her opponent - Veep nominee Biden.  I'd take her in a heartbeat over him if that were the choice.  But I never thought, and have never been able to see why others thought, she would be a standard bearer for the GOP.  If I were her though, I'd be happy about that - could there be a fate worse than being elected President?  TV news gal or President - TV news gal wins on all counts except that I think TV news folk are more encumbered by their sense of their own significance.

The left should be celebrating that their neanderthal opponents on the right are finally shedding their desire to send women back to the kitchen barefoot, but instead they have worked themselves into a lather over Ms. Palin.  Weird.
